Respondus 4.0, Respondus Lockdown Browser, and Respondus Monitor

Respondus now provides three programs that we use at New River CTC and our college-wide site license is now brokered through WVNET for (1) Respondus, (2) Lockdown Browser, and (3) Monitor.

(1) Respondus 4.0 is an application used to create quizzes and surveys in a format compatible with Brightspace D2L. New River CTC has licensed the software for instructor use. Please contact our Help Desk (304-929-6725) for information about how to download, configure and use Respondus. Documentation for how to use the Respondus software is also available at the bottom of this page. Instructors need a password to use this program and can obtain this password from David Ayersman or the Help Desk.

During the installation process you will be asked to enter the name of the institution, the local support contact, and the installation password. The information must be entered EXACTLY as follows:

We recommend that you accept the default settings for where the program is installed. It's important to note that you are not able to download the software directly from the Respondus website, nor are you able to use the password listed above to activate a copy previously downloaded from their site. Context-sensitive help is available throughout the Respondus program by pressing the F1 key. It is also available by selecting "Help" from the pull-down menu on the toolbar. The latest copy of the Respondus User Guide (in Word/WordPad format) can be downloaded from http://www.respondus.com/products/userguide.shtml

NOTE: Respondus occasionally releases updates to the application. At anytime, Respondus 4.0 users can download and apply the latest patch by following these easy steps:

  1. Start Respondus 4.0
  2. Select "Help" from the menu bar
  3. Click "Check for Update" (this requires a live Internet connection)
  4. Click "Get Update"
  5. Upon exiting the Respondus software, the patch will automatically be applied

(2) Lockdown Browser

Respondus Lockdown Browser is an application that enables instructors to limit student access to web-based resources during an exam. Instructors should configure their exams in Blackboard to require the Lockdown Browser and then share the download link with students to obtain the Lockdown Browser.

(3) Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor is a companion application for LockDown Browser that uses webcam and video technology to discourage cheating during online exams. Respondus Monitor integrates seamlessly with learning management systems, and is ideal for non-proctored testing environments. New River is licensed through our consortium with WVNET and has unlimited seats.
