Blackboard Learn 9 Replaces ANGEL
What?
New River replaced ANGEL with Blackboard Learn 9 at the beginning of the Spring 2014 semester (January 2014). At that same time we purchased a license for Lynda.com (now Linkedin Learning) for all employees and students. There is training available for you in Lynda for Blackboard. You can access both Lynda and Blackboard after you login to the portal.
When?
The Spring 2014 term began on January 13, 2014 and Blackboard became our default learning management system for the College.
Why?
The ANGEL software that we had been using was actually bought out by Blackboard just as we implemented it in 2010. In 2012, they announced they would no longer release major updates to ANGEL so we began our process of migrating to a new learning management system. Blackboard Learn 9 was our obvious choice and this decision was expected to result in significant cost savings. It also provides additional functionality and will continue to be updated. These key features made it our compelling choice.
